Traditionally, a contact sheet is a working document, annotated for edits and decision making, and very seldom displayed. However, in Contacts, William Kleins images are not reserved in their annotation embellished with bright gloops of paint, printed in a combination of gloss and matte ink and blown-up out of scale. These images leave the realm of photography, taking on the character of abstract expressionism and pop-art collage.
