oil on canvas, unsigned, presented in an attractive period gilt composition frame.SS 52.25 x 42.25 in.; DOA 51.5 x 61 in.This is a copy of van den Berghe's painting depicting Aegisthus discovering the body of Clytemnestra, his entry for the Prix de Rome competition in 1823, for which he won 3rd place.Several patches on the verso; some minor chipping and loss to frame; minor craquelure.
