Romain de Tirtoff, known professionally as Erté (1892–1990), was a Russian-born French artist, designer, and illustrator whose career spanned seven decades. A leading figure of the Art Deco movement, Erté became internationally acclaimed for his fashion illustrations, stage and costume designs, and later fine art prints and sculptures. His distinctive style—marked by elongated forms, ornamental detail, and exotic elegance—appeared in publications such as Harper’s Bazaar and in productions for the Folies Bergère, the Paris Opera, and Hollywood studios.
