Itzchak Tarkay (1935–2012) was an Israeli painter and printmaker renowned for his depictions of sophisticated women in dreamlike interiors. Born in Subotica, Yugoslavia, Tarkay survived internment during World War II before emigrating to Israel in 1949. He studied at the Avni Institute of Art in Tel Aviv, developing a style influenced by French Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Fauvism. Tarkay achieved international acclaim for his paintings, watercolors, and serigraphs, which are prized for their lyrical elegance and distinctive decorative quality.
