Created in 1961, the composition depicts Jacqueline Roque, Picasso’s muse and second wife, mounted on horseback — a subject that unites themes of vitality, romance, and classical tradition, filtered through Picasso’s bold graphic line.

Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was among the most innovative and prolific artists of the 20th century. From his early Blue and Rose Periods to the invention of Cubism and his later explorations in ceramics and printmaking, Picasso ceaselessly redefined modern art. Jacqueline Roque, whom he married in 1961, became his most frequent muse, appearing in over 400 portraits.
