Artist Bio
Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) was a Russian-born painter and theorist, widely regarded as one of the founders of abstract art. A co-founder of the Der Blaue Reiter movement in Munich, Kandinsky believed that painting, like music, could evoke spiritual and emotional resonance without representing the physical world. His Improvisations, produced from 1909 onward, marked a radical departure from figurative art, employing color and form as vehicles for inner expression. Kandinsky later taught at the Bauhaus, influencing generations of modern artists. His works today are held in major museums worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou, MoMA, and the Guggenheim.
