Felieke van der Leest incorporates her love for animals into her jewelry, giving them busy “social lives” as wearable art and using them to tell unusual stories. Drawing inspiration from her childhood in Emmen, Switzerland, where she frequently visited the local zoo, her playful creations combine textile techniques and plastic animal toys. Beyond their whimsical nature, van der Leest’s works also address contemporary issues, including environmental, social, and political concerns. Her jewelry can be found in major museum collections worldwide, including the CODA Museum in the Netherlands, the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, among many others.
