ALOIS LECOQUE (American, 1891-1981), French Street Scene, oil on canvas, (approximate dimensions - canvas: 24 h x 30 w inches), signed lower left.
Notes: Frame has wear, approximate dimensions - framed: 32-1/4 h x 38-1/8 w inches.
Bio: Alois Lecoque (Alois Kahout) was a Czech-born American painter known for his vivid landscapes and expressive use of color. His vibrant works, influenced by the Post-Impressionist movement and inspired by global travels, earned acclaim in exhibitions across Europe, including the Venice Biennale. Despite enduring personal and political turmoil during World War II, including imprisonment and daring escapes, Lecoque continued to paint prolifically, capturing the essence of diverse landscapes and cultures. His later years in the United States solidified his legacy as a humanist and master painter, with his work celebrated worldwide for its versatility, emotional depth, and universal appeal.
