- Lot Description
Attributed to JOSEPH WRIGHT of DERBY (English, 1734-1797), Portrait of French Minister, oil on canvas, (approximate dimensions - sight: 46-1/2 h x 38 w inches), unsigned.
Notes: Frame has wear, approximate dimensions - framed: 57-3/4 h x 49-1/8 w inches.
Condition
Condition: Surface dust and dirt, minor paint loss upper left corner, paint loss left center, on man's hand, and some on other areas of painting; visible inpaint especially under UV light, varnished aged. Dirt pockets and keys verso.
- Provenance
Provenance: Warren Kopp and Paul Hardman were interior designers who owned an antique shop and interior decorating studio in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1957, they bought the Talbot-Dutton House, now landmarked, where they set up an apartment as an homage to great French style.
