19th c., French, serial # 94113, 50 keys, in the Louis XIV style, gilded case with hand-painted grotesques, lid interior painted with expansive landscape, on carved legs joined by an elaborate strapwork stretcher, the soundboard inscribed "Par Brevet d'Invention Seb. & Pre Erard 13 & 21 rue du Mail Paris", approx. 40"h x 87"l x 54"w - PROVENANCE: The Estate of Bernard-Alexis Poisson de Menars, NY - NOTES/LITERATURE: A similar example resides in the British Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace, with decoration attributed to Francois Rochard.
