Circa 1835. This is a massive Bowie knife with a very long and very heavy, thick blade. Stamped on haft "Broomhead & Thomas Celebrated American Hunting Knife". In wonderful condition, it has a nice long clip with swedge 2/3 of blade. Decorative Spanish notch at rear of blade. Contemporary sharpening marks on edge and swedge. Some light scratches, probably from being pulled in and out of the scabbard. 85% original bright polish. German silver mounts, Mother of Pearl scales with four decorative rivets and a nameplate on both sides. Original brown leather scabbard has some scuffs and a bit of peeling, mostly on edges. Robert Ables' trademark inventory number in red nail polish "6" on knife and scabbard. Blade length 10 - 1/2" L. Overall: 15 - 3/4" L.
