Lot #37: Jeremy Popelka Indigo Lattice, 2020
Blown glass with mosaic and cane elements
16 x 8 x 4 in.
Jeremy Popelka, who has operated for decades from his Sturgeon Bay home and glass studio in Wisconsin's Door County, has exhibited his award-winning work internationally. Indigo Lattice is a superb example of his Murrini work, which involves using colored glass canes that in cross-section create flat organic patterns when blown out.
Popelka received his BFA from Illinois State University in 1985 and his MFA from California College of Arts and Crafts in 1991. Besides sharing his knowledge and technique through workshops in his studio, Popelka has served as visiting artist at prestigious glass programs at Pilchuck Glass School and the Oxbow School of Art. His glass can be found in many private and public collections, and his work has been featured in such national publications as American Craft, Craft's Report, and New Glass Review.
