Lot #41: Linda Marcus Eject, 2019
Suede, Gesso, and Walnut
15 x 14 x 3 in.
Well known for her textiles and fashion design, Linda Marcus acknowledges the important role clothing can play in our lives, be it in the present or as a reminder of past events and experiences. In Eject, a piece from a 2019 series entitled From Here to There, she uses suede handmade clothing, honoring the memories these garments hold by removing them from the context of the body and fixing them in position in a new, abstract material form.
Milwaukee-based Marcus is an interdisciplinary artist whose work focuses on concepts of identity, memory, and time, often using fiber with other materials to tell a story. She was a 2019 recipient of an arts residency at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Her work has been exhibited widely and has been featured in Surface Design, Milwaukee Magazine, and the Milwaukee Business Journal.
