Metal Commemorative Erie Canal Medal with Original Box Designed by Archibald Robertson and Engraved by Charles Cushing Wright, 1826, Medal for Completion of Erie Canal, obverse depicting "Union of Erie with the Atlantic" above figures of Pan and Neptune over "R.Del" and "W.S.C", the reverse depicting the legend "Erie Canal Comm 4 July 1817 Comp 26 Oct. 1825" over New York Coat of Arms, sailing Ship and City in the distance, over 1826, "C.C. Wright, S.C." "Presented by the City of New York" in original carved round box with label on interior "This box was made of a piece of wood bought from Erie in the first canal boat The Seneca Chief".
