Early 19th Century Suzani Uzbek Textile Rug
Size: 5 ft 7 in x 5 ft 4 in (1.7 m x 1.63 m)
This early 19th-century Uzbek Suzani textile from Uzbekistan presents a beautifully structured composition on a creamy ground, its central field organized in a quilt-like arrangement of repeating diamonds embellished with splayed red-petaled flowers, tight circular blossoms, and delicate smaller buds. Leafy, jagged borders in muted tones are offset by sparsely spaced orange flowers, while a wide outer border filled with clusters of red and blue flowers is traversed by a gracefully curved chain of fronds — altogether a refined and botanically expressive example of the Central Asian embroidery tradition.Condition
Lot #420 is in good condition. There are very few minor tears that can be secured. There is a backing sewn to the back to protect the piece. It is a fragment of a bigger piece. This piece is clean.
