Saber Mashhad – Master Weaver of Persian Elegance Ustad Saber was one of the most celebrated master weavers of 20th-century Iran, known for his exceptional workshop rugs produced in the historic city of Mashhad. Revered for his artistic vision and technical mastery, Saber operated during the mid-1900s, a time when Persian rug weaving was transitioning into a more modern, workshop-based system of production. His carpets are distinguished by their meticulous craftsmanship, richly detailed floral designs, and the use of luxurious materials, including soft Khorasan wool and, at times, silk foundations or highlights. Saber’s signature often appears woven into his carpets, a mark of authenticity and pride that links him to a legacy of royal commissions and prestigious exhibitions. His workshop was known for producing large-format rugs with classical Persian medallion-and-corner layouts, using a palette dominated by deep reds, navy blues, and ivory tones. These pieces exhibit high knot density and precision, aligning Saber’s name with the finest Persian rug traditions. Today, Saber Mashhad rugs are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs for their enduring beauty, craftsmanship, and historical significance. Each signed piece is not only a work of art but a testament to a weaver whose influence continues to resonate in the world of fine Persian carpets. Lush with botanical detail and crowned by an intricate medallion, this Saber Mashad rug presents an exceptional balance of symmetry and flourish. The deep field and saturated reds frame a layout known for its refined precision, reflecting the celebrated artistry of Mashad’s master workshops. A compelling example of Persian textile virtuosity.
