Canvas: H 38-1/2 in. W 33 in.
About the Artist: Born Beverly Stoll in Brooklyn, Beverly Pepper studied at Pratt Institute and took night classes with György Kepes at Brooklyn College before leaving commercial art direction in 1949 to study painting at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris, where she worked with André Lhote and Fernand Léger. She settled in Rome in the early 1950s with her husband, the writer Curtis Bill Pepper, and painted socially engaged figurative subjects until 1960, when she turned to sculpture and became one of the first artists to work in Cor-Ten steel. Celebrated for monumental, site-specific works, she lived for decades in Todi, Umbria, where a park of her donated sculptures opened in 2019, and her work is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
Overall excellent, minor imperfections commensurate with age.
