A rare and highly unusual 18th century Continental carved cork sculpture depicting a classical female bust raised on an architectural pedestal base. Likely produced within the tradition of early Grand Tour objects, this piece reflects a fascination with classical antiquity rendered in an unconventional and fragile medium. The carving exhibits expressive detail in the facial features, coiffed hair, and draped form, set above a fluted pedestal and stepped plinth. The cork material has developed a deep, warm patina with pronounced age-related cracking, surface losses, and pitting throughout, all consistent with its age and adding to its sculptural character. Approx. dimensions (in): 5 x 2.5 x 2.5.
