- Lot Description
An antique needlework sampler featuring rows of stitched alphabets, numerals, decorative borders, floral basket motifs, and a leafy vine border worked in muted green, blue, brown, and tan threads on aged linen. The lower inscription appears to read “Emma … Sampler wrought in the 13th year of her age,” though portions are faded and difficult to decipher. Presented under glass in a handsome frame, with visible age toning, fading, fabric wear, and minor losses consistent with its age. A charming early schoolgirl sampler with strong decorative appeal and desirable period character. Approx. frame size (in): 16.25 x 19.5 x 0.75, Approx painting size (in): 14.5 x 17.75.
