A striking and scholarly pair of antique figural bookends depicting William Shakespeare and John Milton, each finely cast in metal with a time-earned patina and mounted on substantial veined onyx bases. The figures are rendered in thoughtful, expressive poses—Shakespeare holding a quill and resting beside a stack of books, while Milton stands contemplatively with draped garments—each name clearly inscribed at the base. The onyx plinths display beautiful natural coloration with warm amber and cream tones, adding elegance and weight. Likely dating to the early 20th century, these bookends embody both literary reverence and classic decorative appeal, making them ideal for a library, study, or collector of literary memorabilia.
