- Lot Description
Antique U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle, manufactured at Springfield Armory and dated 1873 on the lock plate with U.S. eagle and "U.S. Springfield." Chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge, this classic single-shot military rifle features the distinctive trapdoor breech-loading action and Buffington rear sight adopted with the Model 1884 series. The rifle retains its full-length walnut stock with visible U.S. marked buttplate tang, steel barrel bands, and original military configuration. Serial number 37752 appears on the breech block area. Metal surfaces show an even aged patina with handling wear consistent with age, while the stock displays typical service marks and finish wear from historical use. Overall an authentic example of the iconic late 19th-century U.S. military trapdoor Springfield rifle. Approx. length: 51.75.
