- Lot Description
An attractive antique Continental silver box, likely late 19th to early 20th century, featuring richly detailed repoussé decoration throughout. The body is adorned with lively pastoral and courting scenes, including musicians and figures in period dress set within scrolling rococo-style ornamentation, while the lid centers a classical female bust framed by elaborate foliate motifs. The interior retains a warm gilt wash, adding a pleasing contrast to the exterior’s aged silver patina. The underside bears three small pseudo hallmarks, commonly associated with Hanau-style silver, imitating earlier European marks. The hinged lid functions properly, and the piece displays honest wear consistent with age, including surface scratching and areas of tarnish and rubbing to the gilt interior. A charming and decorative example, ideal for use as a snuff, pill, or trinket box, and a fine addition to any collection of antique silver. Approx. dimensions (in): 3.25 x 3.5 x 2.75.
