- Lot Description
A striking glazed ceramic ewer or decorative vessel, formed with a tall tapering body, pedestal foot, narrow ribbed neck, flared trefoil-style pouring lip, and applied loop handle. The surface is richly finished in a mottled, high-gloss glaze with cream, ochre, green, amber, and dark brown/black streaking, giving the piece an aged, archaeological appearance. The body is heavily ribbed with horizontal banding and decorated on opposing sides with raised molded relief panels, including a circular medallion motif on one face and a larger arched figural panel on the reverse with ornate borders, beaded accents, and stylized human or mythological imagery. The underside and interior show clay coloration, glaze residue, mineral-like deposits, and signs of wear. Condition shows surface crazing, patina, staining, glaze irregularities, minor chips, scuffs, and small losses throughout, all consistent with age and decorative use. An eye-catching statement piece with strong texture, sculptural form, and historic revival or folk-art character, well suited for display in a collection of ceramics, decorative arts, or antiquarian-style interiors.
