- Lot Description
Antique 19th century print after Pierre Édouard Frère (1819–1886), titled “Sera-t-il pris? / Will He Be Caught?”, depicting three children observing a rustic outdoor scene with a bird trap, rendered in soft tonal detail characteristic of Frère’s genre works. The lower margin bears the printed credit “Edouard Frère pinx” with engraving by E. Desmaisons and published in Paris, along with the bilingual title. Presented in an older frame with matting, the piece shows age-appropriate toning, foxing, and wear to the frame and backing consistent with its period, but remains a charming example of 19th century French academic printmaking after a noted Barbizon-associated artist. Approx. frame size (in): 20.25 x 23.75 x 0.75, Approx. painting size (in): 13 x 16.25.
