Included in this lot is a Vintage Western Americana Book Collection (5), circa 1949 to 1954. Vintage Western Americana novels span a wide range of styles, from the gritty realism of 19th-century accounts to the stylized action of mid-20th-century pulp fiction. Included is First Edition of "History of the American West"by Robin May, 1984, a historical survey documenting the exploration and settlement of the American frontier. The book covers the roles of explorers, mountain men, cowboys, miners, and settlers, alongside accounts of battles and the era's legends. Second book is a First Edition of "The Book of the American West" editor Jay Monaghan, 1963, a large, illustrated history of the American West, published in 1963. It features contributions from ten different western history experts, aiming to provide an "unvarnished" and comprehensive account of the West's history, from exploration to statehood, blending fact with legend and lore. The book is known for its scholarly yet accessible narrative and extensive illustrations, often sourced from 19th-century periodicals, which bring the era to life. The third book is a First Edition of "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Old West" by Peter Newark, 1980, a comprehensive historical reference work that serves as a "storehouse of information" covering the people, places, and institutions that defined America's frontier from approximately 1776 to 1900. Entries range from famous characters like Grizzly Adams and Chief Big Foot to historical locations such as the Alamo and Yellowstone National Park. The book is heavily illustrated with hundreds of vintage photographs, portraits, and contemporary paintings, including both color and black-and-white images. Fourth one is a First Edition of "The Cowboy in Art" by Ed Ainsworth, 1968, a definitive historical survey of how the American cowboy has been depicted in painting, sculpture, and even cartoons, tracing the complete history of cowboy art from the arrival of Spanish horses to the mid-20th century. With over 250 black-and-white illustrations alongside 16 full-color pages. Covers legendary figures like Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell, as well as 20th-century masters such as Olaf Wieghorst and Peter Hurd. Includes a dedicated section on "Cowpunchers in Cartoons," highlighting Western artists who were also famous cartoonists. The last book is "The Trailblazers", by Bil Gilbert, 1973, from the Time-Life series "The Old West". This non-fiction book explores the pioneers, explorers, and mountain men who first opened the American West to settlers in the early 19th century. The Old West series provides a comprehensive look at the history, culture, and legends of the American frontier, heavily illustrated with authentic 19th-century photographs, maps, and artwork by legendary Western artists like Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell.
