Aldrich Family Chippendale Cherrywood Slant Front Desk

Restorations.
A note in the desk drawer rewritten by Agnes Taylor inscribed "This Desk belonged to my Great Grandfather, John Aldrich, of Scituate, R.I., bought in year 1840 - Mary Titus Washburn."
Probable provenance:
John Aldrich (b. 1773-1863), Gloucester, Providence, RI John Aldrich was a farmer in Scituate and bought the desk at the age of 66;
Son: Arthur Fenner Aldrich (1801-1875) Scituate, RI.;
Daughter: Mrs. Arthur F. Titus (nee Waitstill Aldrich, b. 1830 in Scituate Turnpike, Providence, RI;
Her daughter, Mrs. Cheney D. Washburn (nee Mary Titus, b.1857 in Scituate Turnpike Mrs. George Frederick Taylor (nee Agnes Blanche Murray) b.1914 in Brooklyn, NY;

Feet reduced in height. Shrinkage cracks to fall board. Surface patch to keyhole escutcheon on central desk drawers. Some scratches/abrasions to writing surface. Large patch to drawer lip on top long drawer. Brasses old and likely original. Inside of drawers stained red. Shrinkage cracks to veneered apron. One side lightly sun struck. General surface wear, scratches, bruising, consistent with age and use. Otherwise, good condition.
