Elizabeth Boundy was born in Cornwall, England and was living in St Agnes Truro, Cornwall in the 1841 Census. Her father, Richard, came to the U.S. in 1836, possibly with Elizabeth, who came before 1844 when she married Alonzo Knight (1818-1890). His family tree can be traced back to the Romans in 100 BC. They had two children: Emma (1846-?) and Albert (1849-1919).
In the 1850 Census, they were living in Watervliet, NY a suburb of Troy, NY. Alonzo, age 31, was a molder, Elizabeth, age 33, and with their children: Emma, age 5 and Albert 11 months old. Elizabeth’s father, Richard Boundy, age 65 was living with them.
In the 1860 Census, they were living in Brunswick, Rensselaer County, NY where Alonzo was a farmer.
In the 1870 Census, they were living in Half Moon, Saratoga County, where Alonzo was a prosperous farmer with $7,000 of land and $1800 of personal property.
In the 1880 Census, Alonzo was 61, Elizabeth was 62 and they were living with their son Albert, 31, and his wife, Dora, 29, and their children: Clarrance, age 4, and Russell J. age 2, and a baby 1 month old.
Emma Knight married William James Close and they had two children: daughter, Jessie b. 1874 and son, Winford b. 1878. Winford Close married Maria E. Hoag and they had a child, Marjoie L. Close, b. 1911.
In the 1920 Census Maria’s parents, George and Sarah Hoag were living with them in Schenectady, NY.
David Good has owned about 6 watercolors by the same hand from the NY State area. The Kelloggs had 4 by this hand and sold 2 in NE Auction. They own the portraits of Martha and James Stevenson who are from Argyle, NY about 40 miles north of Troy.
