Chippendale Carved Cherrywood Bonnet Top Highboy
Connecticut, 18th C. in two parts, the upper section with molded cornice. Restorations.
Provenance: Freeman's Auction, 4/17/2013, lot 67
88 x 38 x 20 in. (223.5 x 96.5 x 50.8 cm.)Condition
Finials replaced. Carvings in tympanum later. Carving in lower fan drawer corners later. Dust boards replaced. Some chips and patches to drawer lips. Brasses replaced. Drawers possibly reconstructed in the secondary woods. Top of lower left case leg with unexplained tenons, likely not 18th century. Composed of old parts. Bruising and wear consistent with age, cracks, and repairs to lower portion of case on right side just above knee blocks. Losses to a few dentils in cornice. Scratch to case siders. Odd chip carving in apron of lower section.
