David Linley, born David Albert Charles Armstrong-Jones on November 3, 1961, is a British furniture maker and the 2nd Earl of Snowdon. The son of Princess Margaret and photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones, and through his mother a grandson of King George VI and first cousin of King Charles III. When he was born, he was 5th in the line of succession to the British throne; as of 2025, he is 26th, and the highest who is not a descendant of Queen Elizabeth II, his aunt. He was introduced to the arts and crafts from an early age. Educated at Bedales School and later at the School for Craftsmen in Wood at Parnham House under John Makepeace, Linley honed his skills in cabinetmaking. In 1982, he opened his first workshop in Dorking, and by 1985, he founded his eponymous company, Linley, specializing in bespoke furniture and interior design. His designs are renowned for their meticulous marquetry, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. Linley's clientele includes high-profile figures such as Oprah Winfrey and Carolina Herrera, and his work has been featured in prestigious venues like Claridge’s and The Goring Hotel .
Beyond his design work, Linley has authored several books on furniture and interiors and has lectured internationally. He served as chairman of Christie's UK from 2006 and was later appointed honorary chairman of Christie's EMERI . Linley's designs, characterized by their elegant use of wood and attention to detail, have earned him a reputation as one of Britain's leading furniture makers.
