Both signed Philippot 1837.
Relined, craquelure.
30 1/2 x 25 in. (77.5 x 63.5 cm.)Condition
Each unframed and with craquelure and yellowing of varnish. Both man and woman with paint loss/flaking along edges and at corners. Man signed L.R. and dated 1837. U.V. inspection revealed scattered retouch. Some work done on edge of sitter’s right side of face. Picture is cloudy in center, was likely covered with a frame and an oval slip. Could benefit from a cleaning. Possible repair to knuckles on hand. Female in similar condition with light scattered retouch. Signed and dated 1837 lower left. Condition of surface is cloudy in center and can benefit from light cleaning. Heavier paint loss at corners than man. Yellowing of varnish.
