Silkwork of Birth Announcement for Sally Fairchild
Sally Fairchild Picture of Fame
Sally Fairchild was the daughter of Anson Fairchild & Orpha Spelman and was born 11/7/1790 in West Granville, Hampden County, MA, 15 miles west of Springfield, MA. She married Samuel Curtis on 10/8/1810 in Granville and they had 7 children. She died at 78 on 6/16/1868 in Ravenna, Portage County, Ohio.
A very similar needlework with two additional trees on the left was done by Violet Forward Scott from Belcherville, Massachusetts, 15 miles Northeast of Springfield and was owned by Joan Brownstein in 2009. We believe the needlework school was likely in Springfield because both girls lived 15 miles in opposite directions from Springfield, a center of education in the area.
