The John Brown Pair of Chippendale Walnut Trifid Foot Side Chairs.

Some restorations. Slip seats replaced. Some losses, patches and restorations. Chair IIII's seat frame inscribed Robinson and its back seat rail is inscribed "NB" in chalk, probably for "Nicholas Brown and Company."

To his daughter, Sarah Brown Herreshoff (1773-1846);
To her son Charles Frederick Herreshoff (1809-1888);
Thus by descent in the Herreshoff Family line.

Chair with Blond Shell: Carved from solid and not applied later. Splat replaced. Crest possible replaced. Patch to right near foot. Some glue blocks missing. Slip seat old and possible original.
Chair with Darker Shell: Splat replaced, crest possible replaced. Repair to right stive at juncture and reinforced with inset metal brace. Repairs to shoe. Losses to left rear foot. Some glue blocks lacking. Slip seat replaced.
