Three period seat frames are marked I, II, III and IV. Frame III is inscribed Brown, J. Frame IV is inscribed in pencil Robinson and This chair was reupholstered & repaired in 1883.

To his daughter, Sarah Brown Herreshoff (1773-1846);
To her son Charles Frederick Herreshoff (1809-1888);
Thus by descent in the Herreshoff Family line.
