Fanny F. Palmer (1812-1876)
Two color lithograph with handcoloring, 1855.
Drawn by Fanny F. Palmer (1812-1876). Offering one from a series depicting country landscapes through the four seasons; the others are May Morning, Summers Evening and Pleasures of Winter. Harry Peters credits Mrs. Palmer with creating the most attractive and decorative Currier and Ives prints (Currier and Ives, I, 136). This scene certainly bears out that opinion, showing a happy family on their obviously prosperous homestead, with its large Victorian house and well-manicured landscape. A fine example of the Currier firm's celebration of idyllic country life.
