VICTORIAN 2 PIECE VISITING DRESS 1890s
A 1890s Victorian 2 piece rich deep burgundy colored satin visiting outfit, embellished with a double breasted bodice jacket and bustle skirt, is just satisfying to look at aesthetically. It is very wearable and ready for a new collection.
Deaccession from the Indiana Landmarks' Morris-Butler House, benefiting preservation of the 1865 Second Empire-style home/ former house museum in Indianapolis's Old Northside Historic District. Still retains its museum catalog identification fabric tag sewn into inside neck line.
DETAILS:
BODICE:
• Pleats & fancy metal buttons accent the top
• Brown cotton lining.
• Curved sleeves with Mother of Pearl buttons at opening
• Closure is center side with original dyed Mother of Pearl button with marcasite accents and 12 inner metal eye/hook closure.
• Inside baleen boning with 8 fabric covered stays.
• Back peplum forms at point accented with two fabric colored buttons.
SKIRT:
• The skirt was made for a bustle, with tightly gathered cartridge pleating at back closure and with a large burgundy satin bow accent over bustled area.
• Skirt accented with panels and box pleats and fluted ruffles at hemline.
• Back train bustle cascades down skirt
• 2 eyes/1 hook closures at back waist opening and a deep inner side pocket.
• Fully lined in chocolate colored cotton and multiple ties to adjust the bustle effect.
• Inner lining has a 18 inch semi circle flat wire attached to accent fullness in back of skirt.
• Skirt is heavy with layers of material and strong and durable.

Oldthreads Antique Textile Auctions is different. With our own in-house shipping facilities, we are equipped to pack and safely ship just about any item to just about any location around the globe. For standard items that meet the requirements for weight and dimensional length, Oldthreads Antique Textile Auctions takes care of packaging, insuring and shipping for you.
1. Oldthreads Antique Textiles are able to package purchases (in house shipping) and will ship purchases USPS, UPS OR FEDEX. The cost of packing and shipping of purchased lots is the responsibility of the purchaser. We have added personnel to our staff to pack and ship lots purchased by on-line Bidders.
2. Buyer pays actual Shipping & Insurance Costs + a flat rate fee of $15.00 per lot item in US dollars for clothing and textiles, as long as they are shipped to the same address and can fit in one box. ($20.00 for international shipments, $20.00 per lot item, as long as they are shipped to the same address and can fit in one box.), cost for packaging and handling. Large item, paintings and glass framed items may require additional special handling shipping charges or be delivered to a third party shipper. Check with auctioneer before bidding for details.
3. In addition, the actual cost of shipping & insurance will be charged to your account. All shipments are sent via UPS, FedEx or the United States Postal Service and insured for the invoiced amount (hammer price + buyers premium + shipping charges + credit card surcharge.).
4. Lots won by successful online Bidders will be shipped automatically to the address provided on the registration form only. Please do not ask to ship to another address or a different country than address and name on registered bidder form.
5. Bidder after paying for purchase must contact Oldthreads Antique Textiles (716-557-2452) and provide credit card number for the amount of all shipping and handling charges. Paypal also can be used for payment of shipping charges.
6. Due to the volume of shipping anticipated after the auction ends, we will ship out packages from 1 week to 2 weeks from confirmation of payment receipt. Once the package has been shipped, any shipping related issues or claims are directed to Oldthreads Antique Textile Auctions.
7. Oldthreads Antique Textile Auctions shall not be responsible for any acts or omissions in the packing and shipping of purchased lots if using a third party shipper.
8. Bidders requesting shipment to non-US locations are responsible for compliance with customs and/or any other regulations as may apply. Oldthreads Antique Textile Auctions will provide needed documentation but makes no representation as to suitability of lots for export. An export license may be required from governmental agencies or departments for the export of lots purchased. It is the sole responsibility of purchasers to familiarize themselves with any license requirements or limitations. Oldthreads Antique Textile Auctions will have no responsibility with regard to these matters. Inability to obtain a license to export purchased lots into foreign countries shall not constitute a basis for rescission or cancellation of any purchase.
9. Oldthreads Antique Textile Auctions will not be held responsible for the loss or damage resulting from the shipping in excess of the amount of the insurance. Property is shipping only after payment is cleared.
10. Please note all purchases must be paid for in full Oldthreads Antique Textiles Auctions will automatically bill your credit card for amount due for purchases once invoice for purchase has been sent.
