This is an auction replete with standouts. Works by Magritte, Tamayo, Paschke, Wirsum and multiple mixed media collages and prints from the celebrated Tony Fitzpatrick will cross the block. A significant work by Bill Traylor leads the Outsider Art session, alongside major works by Finster, Yoakum, Dial, Sparrow, and Dawson. Folk art includes a carved grotto Jesus and Devil train set sculpture from Wisconsin, and three oversize leaves by Ivan Albright lead the fine art session. [AFTER] BEARDEN, Romare (American 1911-1988). American Civil Liberties Union Color Screenprint Poster. Not dated. Color screenprint on paper. Image: 28 1/2 x 18". Sheet: 35 x 24". Unframed.
Romare Bearden's "Slave Ship" was used for an ACLU promotional poster. The image celebrated the life of Joseph Cinque, who led a mutiny on the slave ship Amistad.
Condition
Paper toned. Foxing in margins and in image. Edgewear with small tears primarily on right edge. Crease lower left corner.
