This is an auction replete with standouts. Works by Magritte, Tamayo, Paschke, Wirsum and multiple mixed media collages and prints from the celebrated Tony Fitzpatrick will cross the block. A significant work by Bill Traylor leads the Outsider Art session, alongside major works by Finster, Yoakum, Dial, Sparrow, and Dawson. Folk art includes a carved grotto Jesus and Devil train set sculpture from Wisconsin, and three oversize leaves by Ivan Albright lead the fine art session. - Lot Description
ALBRIGHT, Ivan (American, 1897-1983). Bronze Leaves from the Vermont Home of Ivan Albright. Group of Three. Circa 1950. Largest 19 x 14 x 6". They leaves were nailed or hung on a fence on his property in Woodstock, Vermont. Image with the artist and the author of his monograph show two of the leaves in the background.
Condition
Surface dirt. Areas of scuff and general wear in random spots for all 3 leaves. Some verdigris patination underneath.
- Provenance
Purchased from the family in the early 1990's by Grapevine Antiques, New Paltz, NY. Eventually sold to current Private Collection, Oak Park, IL. We have a photo of 2 of the works in situ hung on a fence with the artist in the foreground, a copy of a letter and an email indicating provenance.
