Edenburgh [sic]: Andrew Hart and Richard Lawson, 1608. 4to. 358 pp. Bound in nineteenth half mottled calf over brown cloth, spine lettered in gilt (some wear, soiling to binding, title-page repaired and restored, pp. 173-175 restored at margins, text toned, soiled, occasionally foxed). Very good. SECOND EDITION IN ENGLISH. Estienne wrote this to emphasize Herodotus? importance in his contributions to our knowledge of ancient history; he also used this scholarly work to satirize his own times, by comparing ancient times to his own times. Estienne got into trouble with local (Geneva) clergy for this title; he was arrested and this book was censured. Measurements: 14 x 10 x 1?.
