[252], [2, blank] pp. Bound in publisher?s full dark bluish-green cloth, front board and spine stamped in red (spine toned and edgeworn, boards worn, soiled, upper corners bumped, some occasional thumbsoiling in text, skewed). Bookseller?s ticket of ?Bertrand Smith?s Acres of Books, Cincinnati? on the fp. Very good. THE TRUE FIRST EDITION, (THE RARE ?SUBSCRIPTION EDITION,?) #180/500. This book is dedicated to the original Cincinnati Red Stockings (1866-1870), often referred to as the first professional baseball team, which was undefeated for 1869 and most of 1870. The author was able to refer to the original records of the club, as his father, George Ellard, was a founding member of the team. Offered with a 1987 facsimile edition of this book in the publisher?s full red leather.
