BLAKE, William (1757?1827), illustrator. ?? BLAIR, Robert (1699?1746). The Grave: A Poem. London: printed by T. Bensley for R. Ackermann, 1813. 4to (356 x 292 mm). Frontispiece portrait of Blake after T. Phillips, 12 copper engraved plates including engraved title after Blake drawings engraved by Schiavonetti (spotting or mild foxing to plates). Modern quarter red harmattan goatskin tooled in blind with a design from the plate ?Death of the Strong Wicked Man?, Japanese silk sides, raised bands, gilt?lettering in compartments, uncut. SECOND EDITION with the watermark ?Edmeads & Co. 1811? and ?Original Designs? outlined on the title?page. These designs by Blake are considered his best?known work and his ?most forcible and poetical thinking on the subject of death?. A BRIGHT COPY. Bentley, Blake Books, 435C?D.
