First edition in book form with all internal flaws including the scarce ?relieved? for ?received? on p. 620 that Smith notes as being only ?in some copies.? Handsomely bound in full crimson morocco by the Guild of Women Binders, covers framed in gilt with floral ornaments at border, raised bands, gilt rules in compartments with heart shaped tools and gilt titling, turn-ins ruled in black and bindery stamped in gilt at foot, marbled endpapers, t.e.g. Demy 8vo. Illustrated with 40 engraved plates by Phz, including frontispiece and vignette title page. Demy 8vo. [1 preliminary blank] + half-title, xvi, 624 pp. Armorial bookplate of Adam Rivers Steele. Plates toned and lightly foxed at margins; else a clean text. Rarely seen with the half-title. Smith I, 10.
