This is an auction replete with standouts. Works by Magritte, Tamayo, Paschke, Wirsum and multiple mixed media collages and prints from the celebrated Tony Fitzpatrick will cross the block. A significant work by Bill Traylor leads the Outsider Art session, alongside major works by Finster, Yoakum, Dial, Sparrow, and Dawson. Folk art includes a carved grotto Jesus and Devil train set sculpture from Wisconsin, and three oversize leaves by Ivan Albright lead the fine art session. - Lot Description
[ORIGINAL ARTWORK]. [WORLD WAR II]. BOSTICK, William A., Lt. (Jg.) USNR [American, 1913-2007]. WWII Sketchbook by Wm. A. Bostick together with "A Graphic Report of the Amphibious Operation in Sicily. Amphibious Force, United States Atlantic Fleet, July 1943. Both 1943. Charcoal on paper and print on paper. Largest book. 15 x 12". The aforementioned report has multiple sketches reproduced enhancing understanding of the Sicily operation with text narration over 18 pages. The previous noted book has 22 Pages of WWII original sketches of named and unnamed soldiers, ships and munitions all done in Bostick's hand. Also included are two printed prefold Christmas cards from the Bostick family.
Condition
Paper toned inside and out for both books. In the sketchbook there are a few pages torn out with one area of paper loss on one page at a corner. Where there are drawings in the sketchbook there is residue of image in charcoal on the preceding page. Good condition overall for age and wear.
