[CHILDREN'S AND ILLUSTRATED BOOKS]. PETERSEN, Professor Wilhelm (1900-1987). Trio of First Edition ?Mecki" Books. [Hamburg: Hammerich and Lesser, 1954-57]. Oblong 4tos. Profusely illustrated in color. General wear, soiling, some pages torn, some with tape repairs, some gutters, hinges starting, occasional ownership markings). Fair or better. Titles include: Mecki bei den Eskimos (?Mecki with the Eskimos"), Mecki bei den Chinesen (?Mecki with the Chinese"), Mecki bei den Negerlein (?Mecki with the Little Negroes"). Mecki is a popular hedgehog character from Germany, who goes on adventures throughout the world. In 1940s, he was the ?star" of stop-motion animated films in Germany. After the war, he became even more popular as the ?star" of films, magazines, toys, comics, and books.
