CICERO, Marcus Tullius. De philosophia. Venice: House of Aldus and Andrea of Asola, May?August 1523. Volume I (of 2) only, Small 8vo. 261 leaves including blanks f8 and I4, cancel slip pasted on Iiiiv. Aldine device on title?page. 18th century? straight?grain morocco, decorative paste?paper sides, spine gilt (some wear at ends and corners, last quire starting, marginal dampstaining to last few leaves, also a small spot to upper margin of title?page). Provenance: marginalia and underlining in an early hand throughout; Ralph Van Deman (ownership signature dated Roma, 1920). FIRST ALDINE EDITION. Renouard, p. 97; New UCLA 222.
