[CIVIL WAR]. BARNARD, Major J. G. (1815-1882). The C. S. A. and the Battle of Bull Run. (A Letter to an English Friend.) New York: D. Van Nostrand, 1862. 8vo. Engraved initials on title-page and 5 folding maps inserted at rear. 124, [12, ads], [2, blank] pp. Publisher's full red cloth, boards and spine ruled in blind, front board stamped in gilt, brown coated endleaves (spine toned and edgeworn, some rubbing, wear, soiling to boards, free-endpapers chipped at top, text toned and occasionally soiled, light rubbing to maps). Near fine. THE SCARCE FIRST EDITION. Barnard was a career engineer in the Union Army and was the Chief Engineer in the Army of the Potomac at the beginning of the Civil War. This title is a highly-regarded history of the Battle of Bull Run. From the renowned personal collection of Dr. George D. Lacy. Measurements: 10 x 7 x 1".
