Life of Jefferson Davis, with a Secret History of The Southern Confederacy, Gathered ?Behind the Scenes in Richmond." Philadelphia, PA: National Publishing Company, [1869]. 8vo. Frontispiece portrait of Davis. 536, [4, blank] pp. Publisher's full sheep, spine ruled in gilt, dark brown gilt morocco lettering labels, marbled endleaves, edge of text-block mottled in red (spine a bit sunned, light rubbing to spine and board edges, some occasional light scuffing to boards, hinges barely starting). Fine. FIRST EDITION IN THE UNCOMMON SHEEP. This biography of Davis is highly critical of him and largely blames him for the failure of the Confederacy. Howes P454.
