Illustrated with chromolithographs and folding maps. 561, [1, blank], [4, ads], [2, blank] pp. Publisher's full red cloth over beveled boards, boards stamped in blind, front board and spine stamped in gilt (rebacked and recased, preserving the original spine, later brown coated endleaves, text toned and occasionally foxed and thumbsoiled). Very good. FIRST EDITION OF THIS IMPORTANT HISTORY OF THE SECOND U. S. CAVALRY. The author was an officer of the 2nd Dragoons, who took part in Manassas, Winchester (he lost his right arm in this battle), Gettysburg and Cold Harbor, eventually becoming a Brigadier-General.
