[CIVIL WAR]. STEPHENS, Alexander H. (1812-1883). Clipped signature. Crawfordsville, Georgia, [ca. 1870s-1880s]. Signature on plain paper: ?Alexander H. Stephens Crawfordsville Georgia Fayette Mc Mullen?. Matted, framed and glazed with a later engraved portrait. Visible area: 70 x 148 mm. Light wear to frame. McMullen (1805-1880) was a Southern politician and a member of the Confederate House of Representatives for Virginia. -- [With:] JOHNSTON, Richard Malcolm (1822-1898) and BROWNE, William Hand (1828-1912). Life of Alexander H. Stephens. Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott, 1878. 8vo. Illustrated. First edition. Publisher?s blue cloth, front board and spine stamped in black (some rubbing to binding, hinges starting, frontispiece and title-page partially loose, some inkstamps on first few leaves).
