[CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA BONDS]. Loan certificate (No. 4985) for the Confederate States of America, complete with all 16 Confederate treasury notes (the ?Montgomery? or ?Cotton? bond). Montgomery: May 1, 1861. Printed on white paper, and printed in green and black (minor thumbsoiling, one vertical and one horizontal crease). This $500 loan was approved by the Confederate Congress on May 1, 1861 and was to yield 8% interest. The certificate is signed by Robert Taylor (1816-1877), Confederate Register of the Treasury. Folio (326 x 316 mm). The maturity date of these treasury notes is September 1, 1871. Beautifully matted and framed with engraved plaque (glass is not present). Not examined out of frame; frame size: 570 x 563 mm.
