[COPPERFIELD] WAYNE, Don (1933 ? 2019). Don Wayne/David Copperfield Illusion Production Binder. V.p.: The Magic of David Copperfield, 1986?1990. Production binder belonging to the illusion designer Don Wayne, documenting the conception, logistics, and execution of illusions for The Magic of David Copperfield tours and television specials between 1986 and 1990. Archive includes Don Wayne?s illusion specification forms, detailing name, builder, dates, pricing, etc., for illusions including Motorcycle Shadow Box, Walking Through a Mirror, Orange, Lemon, Egg, and Canary, Origami, Telekinesis, Blaney Ladder Levitation, Death Saw, Camera Vanish, Escape from Alcatraz, and more. Binder also includes hand-drawn sketches of the Walking Through a Mirror illusion, with measurements and material notes, typed correspondence from David Mendoza/Magicraft detailing setup and touring procedures for the Slicer, and freight and inventory manifests for Copperfield?s 1989 Taiwan performances and 1990 world tour, listing more than 100 road cases, illusion dimensions, weights, and values. Further materials include handwritten notes on suppliers for flash paper, Velcro, and specialty paints; a faxed inventory of surviving props from Copperfield?s early television specials (with notations of what to ?keep? or ?throw out?); and detailed memos documenting the relocation of illusions and stage equipment from Los Angeles to Las Vegas storage facilities.
